Some of these pictures were released through one version or another of Disney's official MD:TAS webpages. Some were never intended to pass beyond the production crew, or Disney staff. They are, of course, property of Disney, and not mine. Included here are post-show-release pictures, preliminary pictures, and site-exclusive scans from a marketing production binder that was never intended for public release. Browse and enjoy!

Post-release Pictures

Preliminary Pictures

These pictures fall into two categories. The first few are finished promotional drawings that received some tweaking before the show went into production, leaving them with outdated parts, such as Mallory's hairstyle, Wildwing's armor, and Duke's hair color. The second batch of pictures are from a series of artist sketches, made in the very early stages of development. These blue pencil sketches were given to the show's head writer, David Wise, to help him visualize what Disney wanted the characters to be like. These sketches were distributed to many Ducks fans as gifts by Mr. Wise, and scans of them all (that we know of!) are compiled here.

Character Designs

Blue Pencil Character Roughs

Some widely-varied ideas for Nosedive's design. In the end, he ended up with a design closest to the first picture, but an attitude more like that portrayed in the third picture.

These character sketches make Duke seem a little less Robin Hood and a little more James Bond.

Some of Grin's early designs had him pegged as a more technologically-friendly type, with an adapted visor/communicator. Oddly enough, he also has facial hair! But his outfit never changed much.

Three very different views of Mallory, transitioning from a tough girl to a rebel, and a doe-eyed girl next door. Her outfits, hairstyls, and likewise her personality bear a striking resemblance to Motoko Kusanagi of the "Ghost in the Shell" titles of manga and anime. You're not reading wrong in that third picture either. Mallory was originally Tanya, and vice versa. They had their names switched sometime during character design.

Some early designs for Wildwing, in these pictures bearing his original name Check. David Wise had the name changed during production, claiming the name sounded too tough for Wildwing's noble personality. They also toyed with the idea of him wearing glasses. His outfits here look very similar to his civilian wear.

Finally, some early ideas for tattoos!
